These following:

  • Opening Prayer By Pastor Ron Woody
  • Remarks by Wayne Balch, Master of Ceremony
  • Special Dedication of this years show to Shelley Newton, club member who passed away. Wayne made a Special Presentation to Annabell Newton, Shelley's wife, and told of how dedicated Shelley was to helping the community. Wayne next made a Special Presentation to Gene Mangum, wife of Wayne Mangum, and told how he had not only supported the MDA Car Show, but how he had worked and promoted it from it's beginning. Wayne next made a Special Presentation to Jerry Lipscomb, husband of Pat Lipscomb, who passed away with Muscular Dystrophy. Pat had been to every MDA Car Show and promoted it from it's beginning. These will be greatly missed!

    Next:
  • Introduction and Remarks by Dr. James McNeer, President of Richard Bland College
  • Introduction of Ashley Mauck, representing the Office of MDA.

This would turn out to be the best day we have ever had for this car show, since it's beginning. The high would only reach in the upper 80's with a very low humidy. It was just perfect. Hardee's came in as our sponsor again this year and cooked the best part of the day, under the beautiful Pecan Trees at Richard Bland College. They had a record sales day and donated $2,225.00 to MDA. Records continued to be broken this day with the most vendors the show has ever attracted. They all came to support the show under the shade of the pecan grove.

The cars started coming in around 7:30 am or so and continued throughout the morning. There were about 335 cars, trucks, emergency vehicles, race cars, special interest, and bikes for the spectators to see on this day. But a bigger attraction was the Black Hawk Helicopter that came flying over and landed. It was compliments of the Virginia National Guard that was out on manuevers for the day and dropped in. Then "Elvis" dropped in to make our day complete.

We had added more judges for 2008, but again this year the judges had their hands full with the high dollar Street Rods, Classic, Customs, and Antique cars and trucks that attended. They were the "Best of the Best" as one spectator remarked. Strosnider Chevrolet of Hopewell partnered wih us again this year. The quality of vehicles registered at our show this year was just unreal. The long distance winner came from 207 miles away.

Again this year, the money raised came from registration fees, raffle of the Turnkey Chevrolet 350 HO Crate Engine, 50/50 ticket sales and the Live Auction consisting of lots of items donated by area businesses, friends of MDA, and from several members of the Southern Knights Cruisers. They auction was fierce again this year, as it is always. By the end of the day the show had raised about $25,000. But, there would be more sent in and so the total grew to $28,661.50 by the time it was presented at the MDA Labor Day Telethon on WRIC Channel 8 TV ON September 1st at around 2:00 PM... It has since increased to $28,711.50. It is just amazing what can be done once all the car clubs and auto/bike hobbyists in the community get involved and nobody cares who gets the credit!!
    Thanks to our many sponsors!
We couldn't do it without you.
