Southern Knights Cruisers Establishes Scholarship
Southern Knights Cruisers, a non-profit classic car club, has created an endowed scholarship that will afford students needing assistance the opportunity to earn a prestigious degree from Richard Bland College of William & Mary.
While the car hobbyist group enjoys showing and driving classic cars, they are dedicated to supporting many groups including veterans and youth. "Southern Knights Cruisers has been a longstanding supporter of Richard Bland College and we are now pleased to increase contributions by creating an endowed scholarship," said Ricky Williams, the car club president.
Richard Bland College awards approximately $368,697 in scholarships and grants annually, and the need has consistently grown in recent years, according to President Debbie L. Sydow. "While Richard Bland College is one of the most affordable in Virginia, many students would not have the opportunity to obtain a college degree without scholarships made possible by individuals, businesses and non-profits like Southern Knights Cruisers," said Sydow. "When community partners step up to provide financial support to deserving students, the impact to families and the region is huge."
For 22 years, Southern Knights Cruisers has held an annual classic car show in the grove at Richard Bland College. The event, one of the largest car shows in Central Virginia, is held the last Saturday in September.
